Why Are Hot Tubs Bad During Pregnancy

Use of hot tub during pregnancy will not cause any harm to the mother but it may cause damage to the developing embryo and lead to loss of pregnancy. Hot tubs are relaxing and scooting for the muscles. The body temperature of pregnant women must not rise above the 101 degrees Fahrenheit as it causes the body temperature to rise and this medical condition is called Hyperthermia.

The main reason why hot tub bad during pregnancy is that it can cause the internal body temperature to rise above 101 degrees Fahrenheit. Use of hot tub is linked to higher risk of babies born with the medical condition known as Spina bifida.

Recent studies have shown that hyperthermia may cause damage to cells of the developing embryo having a warm bath with temperature less than 100 degree Fahrenheit is not harmful and it is sufficient for relaxing the muscles as long as they are not over heated.
According to expert if the temperature of the women rises to above 102.2 degree Fahrenheit. High body temperature during pregnancy can be harmful for developing embryo if the person stays for the long time in a hot tub of very high temperature this will cause the body temperature to rise very high that can cause damage to the developing embryo . If the temperature of the hot tub is less than 100 degree Fahrenheit is not harmful and it is sufficient for relaxing.

There can be adverse affects of high temperature to the mother as well as to the developing fetus. The increase in the internal body temperature for a prolonged period of time can cause drop in the blood pressure leading to less supply of oxygen and nutrients to the developing embryo. Complications such as closure of the skull or spinal cord may occur and the birth defect such as nerve defect may occur.

There is some reason why hot tub bad during pregnancy is that Water above 105 degrees can be damaging to the developing cells of the embryo. Hot tubs are normally too hot to be safe for the developing cells of the embryo. Its not harmful for the mother but it is harmful for the baby staying in fluid that’s gets very warm as the body temperature of the mother rises. The use of hot tub during the first trimester of pregnancy may lead to malformation in the developing embryo. Hot tub bath is not good to use during pregnancy unless the person can manage to control the temperature.
